Privacy Policy
1. Local Processing & Financial Data
Your financial privacy is our primary engineering priority. The Retirement Planning Simulator operates entirely client-side within your local web browser. We do not collect, process, transmit, or store any of the financial figures, account balances, contribution amounts, or timelines you input into the tool. Because this data never leaves your device, it cannot be intercepted, sold, or exposed by our servers.
To make the calculator convenient, your inputs are saved in your own browser's local storage so your plan is still there when you return on the same device. This saved copy also never leaves your device, and you can erase it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
About shareable links: when you copy the page link to share or bookmark a plan, your assumptions (balances, contributions, growth rates, and spending) are encoded in the part of the web address after the # symbol. Web browsers never transmit this part to our servers, our analytics, or any website you navigate to next — it stays on the devices of you and anyone you send it to. It is encoded, not encrypted, so treat a shared link like the numbers themselves: anyone you give it to can open the plan. If you would rather not embed your figures, simply share the plain address without the part after the #.
2. Information We Do Collect (Analytics)
To understand how visitors use our website and to ensure our tools function correctly across different devices, we collect basic, non-personally identifiable usage data. This may include:
- Device and Network Data: Your IP address, browser type, operating system, and device screen size.
- Usage Data: Pages visited, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, and referring website addresses.
3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our website and to serve advertisements. Cookies are small files placed on your device that may include an anonymous unique identifier. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. Analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you choose Accept in the cookie banner; if you decline, no analytics or advertising cookies are placed and the core calculator still functions perfectly.
4. Third-Party Service Providers
We may employ third-party companies (such as website analytics providers like Google Analytics) to facilitate our website and analyze how it is used. These third parties have access to your Usage Data strictly to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.
5. Advertising (Google AdSense)
We display advertisements served by Google AdSense to keep this tool free. Google and its partners use cookies and device identifiers to serve ads, measure their performance, and — where you have consented — personalize them based on your visits to this and other websites. Your financial inputs are never used for advertising: the numbers you type stay in your browser and are not available to us or to any advertiser.
You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info/choices. Depending on where you live, the use of advertising cookies may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under state privacy laws; you can prevent it on this site by choosing Decline in our cookie banner, which keeps all advertising cookies off.
6. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to opt-out of analytics tracking. If you wish to prevent your data from being used by Google Analytics, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. At this time, we do not respond to "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser signals for basic site analytics.
7. Contact Us
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, please contact us at: info@retiring.guide.
